OVERVIEW LIFE MUSIC CAREER ARTISTRY PORTFOLIO
Arielle Howell is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, writer, model, and actress from California. She expresses herself in various mediums of creativity and in recent years has come to sum up her artistry under the title of "storyteller." Her career as a musician began in 2008 when she began performing her original works live. She released her debut single “Wolves” in 2020, and she has released various singles and collaborations since. Her debut album is due out in 2024.
Arielle began acting in 2008 when she took on her first lead in her middle school musical production of Seussical the musical. From then to present day she has taken the stage as a poet, actress, and dancer, and is currently taking on writing, acting, directing, and composition in film. Arielle made her film debut as the lead of student short film Legendary (2023). She completed her first short film “To The Grave” for a private film festival in December 2023 as writer, director, editor, actress, and composer. She completed the score composition and credit song for short film/TV show pilot “Pantheon Pact” in February 2024.
Arielle’s exposure to the modeling world began in 2014 as the model for student photographers/videographers that she met during her undergraduate studies. From then to present day she has booked modeling gigs with various fashion, skincare, and outdoor brands. She has also collaborated with various independent photographers as both model and co-director of art.
Life
Arielle was born and raised in Southern California. With her father as a musician and audio engineer she was exposed to the world of performance and creativity early on, finding her love for music at a young age. Growing up, she was known amongst friends and family for her creative expressions in music, theater, and art. Her musical roots were set in elementary school where she began to teach herself to play piano on her fathers keyboard and began playing flute in the marching band in grade 5. Eventually, running back and forth to memorize and translate the sounds of Beethoven, Pachelbel, and the chords from her favorite songs turned into the foundation of her abilities as she began seriously writing her own songs in middle school. At this time she was also exposed to musical theater via her middle school theater program. By highschool, her writing switched more heavily to guitar and she began to perform her original works as opportunities presented themselves. In a school singing competition, she produced one of her first tracks to which she performed and won first place.
During her undergraduate studies, Arielle began taking performing and writing even more seriously as she joined her university's spoken word team and a hip hop club where she discovered her voice as a poet and rapper. During this time she began traveling and booking gigs where she performed her original pieces as singer-songwriter and poet at coffee shops, private events, public events, and conferences. She also expanded her creativity in collaboration with students from the university’s film and theater programs.
After completing her B.S. degree in Biological Sciences Pre-Med, Arielle took a gap year where she decided to refine her trajectory from “Music, Medicine, & Missions” to simply “music” recognizing that “[her] desire/mission is to see people healed… and [her] artistry does exactly that.” From then on, after some time of personal development and self discovery she produced and released her debut single “Wolves” (2020).
Arielle has further refined her passion to a love of storytelling. With music as the forerunner, Arielle is currently finding her place in the world of film where all that she has learned and all her skills merge together in a single field (producing soundtracks, composing, acting, modeling, writing, cinematography, and directing).
Arielle has a deep value for culture and nature and takes to heart her personal motto “get lost on purpose… and then art about it.” She gains inspiration, refreshment, and a sense of adventure throughout the year via backcountry exploration, backpacking, camping, hiking, and travel. The outdoors have been both the muse and sanctuary for much of her writing and paintings as well as her photography and film/reel creations.
Music Career
Debut single: “Wolves” 2020.
Up until this point, Arielle’s music was only available live, or via videos shared on youtube.
This debut single marked the decision to face her fears “the wolves” and press forward into what she knows she has been created to do. She had a vision of the cover that came to life on a trip to Washington where the photoshoot was set. The deep greens of the forest and bright yellow of her coat brought to life the moody tone and symbolism of light/hope in dark/hopeless places.
Second Single: “The Deep End” 2020
A friend (Jonn Sherril) reached out to Arielle about a 1950s 8mm film camera he found along with some 70 year old or so expired film that had no promise of yielding a result. Eagerly accepting the invitation to a creative adventure, Arielle took Jonn on a day journey to some of her favorite spots as he filmed her in her elements. With their breaths held, they sent out the film to Canada and ended up with a result better than they could have imagined. In the process of writing the song for the film, Arielle spent a week (during covid) camping out in her backyard seeking inspiration. One evening inspiration came and she wrote and produced the song in one night. “The Deep End” is another representation of what it looks like to answer the hearts' call with a leap of faith in full rest and freedom.
Third Single “Tomorrow” 2022 and Onward
Post the “covid hiatus” and pausing of the world… Arielle (after much personal reconstruction and healing) wrote and released her third single “Tomorrow.” The song had been written and completed since college with the exception of the solo and percussion in production. In 2021 she partnered with Andrea David to produce the music video, and after several months of “searching for the right beat” she finally completed the song with Bossa Nova influenced rhythms and traveling ukulele solo lines. The single was released alongside the film New Year’s Day of 2022.
Music Continued…
In the midst of her personal releases, Arielle wrote soundtrack numbers for independent films, collaborated in releases as a feature, and produced and performed “Wildflowers” a song written by a California based young artist Wyat Tietz in 2023.
Composition & Score
Leaving full time work in summer of 2022, Arielle began her “full time” career in music and entertainment. Dec 2023 she wrote, directed, performed, and scored her first short film “To The Grave” for a private film festival put on by her film collective. Not long after, she received her first “official” gig as composer for a short film (TV show pilot) entitled “Pantheon Pact” in January 2024 writing both the score and the credits song.
Other Artistry
Film and Stage
In middle school, Arielle was exposed to large scale production when she took on her first lead as the Sour Kangaroo in Seussical the Musical. From then on she joined the theater program of her highschool, performing in various productions and showcases while volunteering at her former middle school's theater. By her second year of highschool she acquired enough stage and tech hours to become a member the Thespian Troupe. In the musical production “Once On This Island” she received a MACY award for her choir performance of music and choreography. During her undergraduate studies, she continued with stage performance through spoken word and dance, as well as projects associated with her university's film and theater programs.
In 2022, Arielle began her journey in film where all of her creative outlets merged into one. Within her newfound film community, she started to bring to life her ideas in score compositions, soundtracks, acting, writing, and directing film. She completed her first short film “To The Grave” (as writer, director, actress, editor, and composer) in December of 2023 for a short film festival prompt put on by her film collective (with the support of a second actress and producer). Not long after, she received her first score composition gig for a short film entitled “Pantheon Pact” in January 2024. She is currently working on a passion project as co-writer, co-director, and actress of another short film while taking on other opportunities for acting, writing, and composing.
