“Meet Mayzie” is a brand born from a desire to bring positive light to the African American Experience through storytelling illustrations of diversity and an opportunity to give.
“The First Day of School” is the first story of many to come written by Mae Valentine built upon the characters originating from her youngest daughter’s imagination about 13 years ago.
Mae has always had a vision for Mayzie. She would spend her days imagining stories and personalities for the characters in order to relay positive messages and give a different angle to the diverse ways life is experienced. She finally decided to put it into words, the vision manifesting itself in full when her eldest daughter Arielle was inspired to illustrate the characters and scenes.
